Mumbai Bollywood

Bollywood has always been famous for its style, new and advanced trends, dialogues, music, dance sequences, spectacular sets or shooting locations, the life of superstars and above all the spending capacity of the production companies. 

Bollywood is basically an informal term used for denoting the Indian Film Fraternity or the Hindi Film Industry. Bollywood as the name suggests is  derived from Hollywood, which many think is the film industry of the West.

History of Bollywood

Hindi Cinema or Bollywood came into existence at the beginning of the 20th century with the first silent movie, Raja Harishchandra made in 1913. Dadasahab Phalke, an eminent visionary actor/director/producer paved the way for Hindi cinema. 

The first sound movie Alam Aara  came in 1937, the period when the fight for freedom was at its peak. The post independence era was known as the "Great Depression" and a majority of movies depicted the same.

The period between the late 1940s to the 1960s is actually regarded as the 'Golden Age' by many film historians of Hindi cinema. During this period only the most critically acclaimed Hindi cult movies like Guru Dutt's Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool.

Raj Kapoor's Shree 420, Awaara; were produced and hitherto Mumbai Bollywood celebrate the joy and cherish the magic of the same. During the 60's Bollywood was producing about 200 movies a year. Actors like Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor were known to fill up the coffers for producers.

The period between late 1960s and 70s, was the period of 'Modern Cinema" which were completely action, romance, music driven. Actors like Rjaesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Sharmila Tagore, Waheeda Rehman  carried the torch and walked on the footsteps of fine work left behind. 

The decade of 80's saw actors like Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Mithun Chakravarty and Rishi Kapoor taking the centre stage. The 90's and the present era is dominated by the Khans viz. Salman, Shahrukh and Aamir.

The local audience are an avid lover of B’town movies, music, drama/ melodrama, action and last but not the least comedy; eat movies, sleep movies and walk movies in that sense. After the advent of sound in Bollywood movies/ films, the 100 years of Bollywood history has witnessed so many marvelous talkies and musicals with so many born talented musicians, directors, writers, lyricists working hard and bring out the best out of their minds.

Mumbai Bollywood represents the culture, art and creativity of Indian minds and we all as Indians are proud of it.
