The "Mahalakshmi temple", is situated in Mumbai, overlooking the beautiful Arabian Sea. It is a famous “Shakti temple”, because it is one of the 6 sites of the Shakti, where devotees can get their desires fulfilled, as well get their salvation. Thousands visit the temple during the Navaratras , Diwali and in the month of Margashirsha , as devotees believe that she is a “Living Goddess”.
During the Navaratras the 1st 3 days, the devotees worship the “Mother”, as manifested in “Durga”. During the next 3 days they worship her in the form of “Goddess Mahalakshmi”, and the last 3 days they worship her in the form of “Goddess Saraswati”.
One day Goddess Mahalakshmi instructed Shri Ramji Prabhu in a dream to take out the idols from the creek and place them on top of the hillock. After he did that work he was successful in connecting the two creeks. After completion of the work on the creeks, the Engineer obtained some ground on the hillock as a gift from the British. He then constructed the, Mahalakshmi temple on top of the hillock. This temple was constructed between 1761 AD to 1771 AD.

The temple translates books on the “Shakti cult”, into Marathi, Gujarati and Hindi languages. The temple provides Scholarships to the poor Hindu students in Mumbai and Thane, on a yearly one time payment basis. The criteria for the students is that they should have scored more than 60% . They give rupees 1,000/- to rupees 10,000/- depending upon what course they are doing. This is open to all the students from 7th class up to Graduation.
They also provide free medical grant to poor patients from all religions in Mumbai and Pune. The financial assistance can be anything from rupees 1,000/- to rupees 5,000/-. The Mahalakshmi Trust also helps people during natural disasters like floods, earthquakes etc. The Mahalakshmi temple is liked by all the devotees and the daily Darshan timings for the Temple are from 6am to 10pm.

History of the Mahalakshmi Temple in Mumbai
The Hindus immersed the idols of the Goddesses, into the sea near Worli creek, to avoid the destruction of the idols by the Muslim invaders. During the time of the British Raj, Lord Horneby, decided to connect the two islands, Worli and Malabar hill creek and the work was entrusted to Shri Ramji Shivji Prabhu, a Government Engineer.
