In pre- independence India several native banks and financial institutions came into the forefront to initiate banking habits among Indian nationals.
The idea was to form an institution which will be solely managed by the Indians free from the colonial dominance of the British. Central Bank of India is a public sector bank which emerged in Mumbai in 1911 with Pherozeshah Mehta as its’ acting CMD.
Dubbed as one among the biggest and oldest commercial financial institutions it has a banking network of 4100 branches all over India with a net revenue of Rs.19149 crore in the financial year 2010-11.
