Fort Mumbai

Fort in Mumbai or Fort area in Mumbai is one of the most distinguished areas of Mumbai for more than one reason. It is also home to many famous art-houses, shopping destinations and restaurants. 

Fort area covers from Dockyard in the east to Azad Maidan in the west; Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus in the north to Kala Ghoda in the south. The area is indeed very large and covers almost entire Colaba area of South Mumbai. 

At the very heart of this immensely large area lie two most important financial institutions of our country, one is Bombay Stock Exchange and other is headquarter of Reserve Bank of India.

The BSE or Bombay Stock Exchange building especially enjoys huge fascination among tourists. Speaking further about BSE, it is the oldest stock exchange of Asia, i.e. Asia’s first stock exchange was built in the very own Fort area of Mumbai.

Apart from these two Government owned institutions, Fort is also home to plethora of branches of private banks and headquarters of many MNCs, including headquarters of Tata Group. 

Shopping and food at Fort Mumbai
Fort’s shopping and food carnival activities are concentrated mainly at Dadabhai Naoroji Road or more popularly known as D N Road.  Books, Pirated CDS and DVDs, cloths, imitation jewelries and many more popular items. But the stuff that is sold most here is pirated CDs and DVDs, especially software & game CDs & DVDs. 

This popular shopping precinct is located under the roof of many historical gothic buildings. It’s like history and shopping coming together at one place. Colaba Causeway. Colaba Causeway is one place that every diehard shopper of Mumbai and especially South Mumbai literally swears by.
