Taxi
If Ambassador is dominating the road of Kolkata and Delhi as taxi, then yellow-black PrimierPadminis are the kings on the Mumbai taxi-stand.
Bombay was introduced with the taxi in 1904. Before which some Plymouth and Dodges were plodding on the city road. After that, Austin appeared.
Since 1970, Primier Padminis have taken a premier place on the roads of the city. In almost every cab, you can find a small idol or picture of a Hindu deity (usually Ganapati or Saibaba) and on the out side a sticker or two bearing the names of the local places. Mumbaiites share a love-hate relationship with the taxiwallahs or cabbies, as there is always a risk of being overcharged, especially if you’re a tourist.
Unlike other metros of the world the taxi fare is calculated according to the combination of distance and waiting time which measured by a taximeter. Among all taxis some run by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) aiming to keep the air pollution at bay.
A taxi fare-chart is provided below for your easy access.
