India is democratic country offering the facility of electing government to the citizens through elections after every five years whether it is in centre or at state level. The politics in India is generally influenced by two major political parties Indian National Congress (INC) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), these two parties dominate the scenario of Indian Politics besides them there are other regional parties who play an active role in deciding the future of Indian politics at the time of elections.
These regional parties generally have their impact on the State politics. These parties are the ruling parties in some of the states and in some states they act as an alliance of the party in rule. The politics of Maharashtra is not an exception to it where apart from the two major political parties i.e., Indian National Congress and Bhartiya Janta Party, the third party which influences the political scenario is Shiv Sena. However the major political parties in Maharashtra are Indian National Congress (INC), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) , Shiv Sena (SHS, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) , Samajwadi Party, Peasants and Workers Party of India (PWPI), Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M).
